What you should know
PPTX has been the PowerPoint presentation format since 2007: a ZIP archive of XML files describing each slide, its master, its theme and its media. Keynote, LibreOffice Impress and Google Slides can open it.
FileXvert produces it from a PDF: each page becomes a slide, as an image. It is the most faithful way to project a PDF document or add it to an existing presentation.
Strengths
- The expected format for projecting and presenting
- Opened by PowerPoint, Keynote, Impress and Google Slides
- Slides are easy to reorder, delete or annotate
- A converted PDF page stays visually identical
Limitations to know
- Converted from a PDF, slides are images: their text cannot be edited
- To PDF, the presentation is converted on FileXvert's server, not in the browser
- The file is heavier than a text PDF, since each page is an image
- Animations and transitions do not exist in a PDF, so not in the result either
When to use it
Convert a PDF to PowerPoint to project it in a meeting, add speaker notes or insert a few pages into an existing presentation. To change the text, go back to the source document.
Quality, size and compatibility
Each page is rendered at 144 dpi, then placed on a slide sized like the PDF's first page: an A4 PDF gives A4 slides, and a page of another size is centred without distortion. The result is sharp when projected and in ordinary printing.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I edit the slides' text?
- No: each slide contains the image of the page. You can, however, add text boxes, shapes or notes on top in PowerPoint.
- Can FileXvert convert a PowerPoint to PDF?
- Yes: the presentation is sent to our server, converted with LibreOffice (one page per slide, images and layout included), then deleted as soon as the PDF is returned. A notice is shown before upload.
