How the converter works
Pick a category, then drop your file into the tool: the conversion runs in the tab thanks to FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The file is read locally, decoded, re-encoded into the requested format, then offered for download. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is kept.
Speed therefore depends on your device: a recent computer converts faster than a phone, and a large file takes more time and memory. For the best result, keep the tab open until the download and avoid running several heavy conversions at once.
Your files stay on your device
For video, audio, images and most documents, the content and the name of your files never leave your machine. This promise is structural, not commercial: no data is sent to a server, so there is nothing to keep, analyse or resell. The office conversions that require our server (Word, PowerPoint, OpenDocument, RTF or HTML documents converted to PDF or between each other, PDF to Word, Excel or PDF/A) are flagged before upload, and the file is deleted there as soon as the result is returned.
Tips by format
- Video: prefer MP4 to share, WebM for the web, MKV to archive several languages.
- Audio: FLAC to preserve, MP3 at 192 kbps to listen, WAV to edit.
- Image: JPEG for photos, PNG for graphics, WebP for the web, SVG for logos.
- Document: PDF to distribute, DOCX or Markdown to write. A scanned PDF contains no selectable text.
Frequently asked questions
- Is there a size limit?
- The limit comes from the memory available in the tab, not from a commercial quota. The free account accepts files up to 100 MB; Premium raises the ceiling to 2 GB and removes the wait before download.
- Is the conversion really free?
- Yes, with no sign-up and no limit on the number of conversions for common formats. The service is funded by a discreet ad slot and by the optional Premium plan.
- Why is a conversion sometimes slow?
- Because the computation happens on your device: duration depends on the processor, the file size and the complexity of the format. A file of several hundred megabytes may take several minutes.
